OK I tried RSS

OK so i tried some RSS. I won't say what client I used, but frankly it freaked me out and I'm going back to my good old fasioned browsing. I think RSS will die a slow and painful death like gopher. Remember that? (yes: you know what I mean. No: See?)

So this is what I want. I want a web based service that stores my favorites and then presents them in a sidebar tool. I used to use a service for that but it went the way of the gopher. Anyone? Anyone?

I tried the google toolbar and it freaked me out (ok so i spilled it) it did all kinds of things up to but not limited to showing me pictures of Wesley Crusher all growed up with his wife. It found that all on it's own because I frequent his blog. OK that's not what I want on my desktop so I'm going to uninstall it. It was too clever. too clever.

Seeing Wesley all grown up freaks me out, too.

Were you using Google Desktop search or just the search toolbar? The latter is completely non-invasive on my PC. Stop by and see sometime.

Possible sites to try for you are del.icio.us and start.com. There is also the personalized Google homepage and my.msn.com. Some people also like Yahoo's personal home page and there is Microsoft's new Windows Live Favorites (local install required).

Let us know what ends up working for you. Of course, you can also try one of the readers that integrates with Outlook.

Yeah, the Google search toolbar rules (of course, I have to say that... but it is really nice)

Check out FeedDemon for a good stand-alone RSS reader, or NewsGator which does two things: integrates into Outlook, and lets you propagate your RSS feeds between machines. NewsGator integration with FeedDemon and NetNewsWire (an awesome Mac RSS reader) should be coming soon, too.

I wouldn't use the Google sidebar for an RSS reader. reader.google.com is OK but needs some more stuff to be perfect.
