two topics: I love the matrix & bears eat people sometimes.

I had a nice talk with Max about the matrix the movie. It started because they were talking about how movies like that they can't watch because they are violent. I explained that while that was true they can also have merit. I was able to explain the themes of oppression and being able to see things for what they really are. I'm not sure they "got" it but at least I got talk it through and that was beneficial for me.

I watched "Grizzly Man" last night. It was something. It was not a documentary about bears. It was a documentary about a crazy guy. He was disturbed. He seemed to be committing suicide just very slowly with the bears. He did get eaten. I had a discussion with Gina, who recommended it, about if it was irony. I agree that it is irony because he felt he had this symbiotic relationship with the bears. Not only ironic, but also sucks. (I wonder if there are examples of irony that don't suck.)

He was definitely messed up. I feel bad for his girlfriend who was also eaten. This isn't a spoiler because they talk about the deaths right from the start of the film. If you do watch it, see how much he's not trying to make a documentary (I mean Timmy not the actual film maker in this case.) but like an extreme bears reality show, but I lost a lot of respect for him quickly as I watched his outtakes. Still a good netflix bet.

flutter byeeee

Max, Sam and I had a great time with Gina, Lily and Isabelle yesterday at the science center. I would have put up a photo of all the kids, but as Heizenburger (Not a famous physisist, but a rather ornary kindegarten teacher from my younger days) said that it's uncertain how many children are in the class at any one time or how fast they are moving. So they were never in the same spot... at all. Ever.

This thing might have been dead and I wouldn't have known better. Either that it or it was saying something about yet another asshole with a point and shoot camera trying to get a macro shot of me... god dammmit.

Couple of things

Thanks to Tom for the nice write up of our dinner out. Also posting the photos I took of his chrome cups. He refers to me as a guru of some sort, guru of what I'm not sure. I'm just trying to get through my own haze just like he's making it through his. (he's linked in my side bar and yes i'm too lazy to copy it here)

I almost blew up my vacuum cleaner tonight.

I spent about 45 mins cleaning dog hair and stuffed animal stuffing out of the rotar brush. So now I don't feel like cooking, I said "screw you guys... i'm getting a pizza"

too much south park. That's on the agenda for tonight. At least 3 episodes of south park and maybe even a dead wood depending on how late I stay up. Pathetic? indeed.

This just in: I got another episode of "The Office" on the ole ipod so yes I'll be watching the really tiny screen tonight... I know I can pipe it to the tv or even play it on the pc but screw that, I'm going to watch it in the tub and I'll try not to drop the ipod... I swear.

Don't touch my monkies

That is all.

Is there a place to wade around here?

OK so I went and played pool last night. I had played before at a guys house so I thought I'd do, "OK." uh no. I played in a match. I guess a set of matches is a tournament, but ok so I sucked. I got skinned. I won the lag for the break and the guy scratched while going for the 8 so I won one game. Er I should say he lost. Someone got sick so I had to play because I'm the alternate. They put me up first. I played a guy who better than me and because I'm new I've never played before they start you right in the middle of the ranks so I would have had to have won like 3 or 4 games or something.

I liked it alot though. It was very casual and people weren't competitive ass-hats. (Is that hyphenated?) The food was pretty good and very cheap. The service was great and pool all evening only costs $6.00 So I had a good time. Because I went first I could leave whenever, but I stayed and watched a few more players. They have a practice table, but I never bothered since I went first.

It's not all guys either, the scenery was kinda nice.

I just wish they had a kiddy version of this pool where I can wade with my lack of skill and my stick.

new coke

ok no not "new coke" that really stupid disaster from when I was 16. I remember because I was in driver's ED when coke decided to totally screw the entire world out of their beloved beverage. no no no. Please the horror.

I'm about to sample right now black cherry vanilla coke and report to you here my blog not so live the results. Let's start with my preconceptions. Let's face it we all have preconceptions some of mine are, "That steak will be good." "Anything U2 does is great" and the not always faithful and/or true "There will be food of any sort in the cafeteria at work." I have the preconception that black cherry vanilla coke will be just like vanilla coke with yet another artificial flavor getting between me and my coke goodness. This is a preconception kinda like I thought the matrix 2 or 3 wouldn't be as good as the first... oh wait those were true.

OK I just tasted it... and said, "OK cough syrup." Then I waited a while and tried it again. It's not so good I'm afraid. I guess I got to eliminate that one from the list. Let's just be fair and say that cherry coke when taken in moderation is a very good thing. Vanilla coke early in the morning was good too.

Maybe if you have a cough black cherry vanilla coke would be ok...

Do they call it black cherry vanilla coke because the artificial flavor they add for the cherry is in fact black in color? I don't know.

I gotta give this two thumbs down. Because as most of you know, I have two thumbs.

a rather a-typical departure for me

(if you live outside of WA or are not into democrats you likely want to sit this one out)

It seems to me that we're a state that's blue. It's blue now, it was blue before and it's going to stay blue. When the last presidential election came to a head. Were they here in WA... um no. They were in Ohio. They were also in Florida but that's more for the the sun than for the votes.

So this brings me to my point. Maybe you live in WA and you'd like to make a difference in a swing state. Maybe you don't, maybe you're all, "fuck you JR how dare you post something with a small point rather than the usual dribble!" Maybe you want to spend some political $'s out of state on an election that has nothing to do with you. Nothing. It will help another state get a little blue-er maybe.

If you're not all "fuck you" then, check this out. Then if you like the idea of helping out a totally separate corner of the world other than our own lil blue world then also donate to him. K? He's gonna have a paypal link up there soon.

I can vouch for him, I knew him before we had grey hair... I did.

OK I tried RSS

OK so i tried some RSS. I won't say what client I used, but frankly it freaked me out and I'm going back to my good old fasioned browsing. I think RSS will die a slow and painful death like gopher. Remember that? (yes: you know what I mean. No: See?)

So this is what I want. I want a web based service that stores my favorites and then presents them in a sidebar tool. I used to use a service for that but it went the way of the gopher. Anyone? Anyone?

I tried the google toolbar and it freaked me out (ok so i spilled it) it did all kinds of things up to but not limited to showing me pictures of Wesley Crusher all growed up with his wife. It found that all on it's own because I frequent his blog. OK that's not what I want on my desktop so I'm going to uninstall it. It was too clever. too clever.

god damn it

those are mine!

woke up this morning...

woke up this morning got myself a gun... blue moon in your eyes.

OK I didn't really get a gun. I don't like guns. I don't like weapons. I do like that song.

and we're back...

due to a small change on the blogger side this blog and Tom's blog, "Coming through the haze" (see sidebar links) were unable to publish for about a week. Sorry about that.

so we should be good now. Tom should be up and running again by the end of the day.

just another day...

On July 4th 1776 King George entered into his journal: "Nothing of any importance happened today."

I'm not sure if that's just a legend or not. I mean he could not have known about the signing of the declaration of independence that day because communication was obviously much slower than it is today.

dinner tonight or... some days you ... uh ... lose

So I made fried rice and vegges tonight. I wanted something light without meat and easy and not much in the way of portion. so 1 cup rice in the rice cooker. um ya that's kinda the minimum the thing does and it was way more than I needed.

I added the egg, onion and butter etc. then the vegges and I had more veg than rice, ok no worries. Not so good. See the rice was well just a touch hard. It wasn't like break your teeth hard, inedible hard it was more of a sense of "something not right with this rice" kinda feeling I got as I ate it. I didn't like it too much. I have a shit ton caught in my braces so right when I get up from this you know I will be brushing.

Tonight I'm going to sit in my big ass bed with my tablet and my personal dvd player. ok for the record my personal dvd play is an iMac graphite next to my bed. Hey what are you gonna do?

I plan on watching the rest of disc one of season 2 of south park. God dammmmit. Then a little more intelect with guns germs and steel disc one. Time permitting a little dead wood and finally I will close up the evening with the latest episode of "the office" american style.

boo ya.

So rice... lose.... dvd's... win

Somedays you win, somedays you lose, somedays it rains... think about it. (Bull Durham)

personification

So I like to attribute human qualities to just about anything but a urinal? I'm not even going to go into what goes through my mind sometimes when I'm tired and peeing... I'm not.

Also at movie theaters do you think because of those really big sodas they should have to pay more for sewer. I mean when was the last time you drank one of those really big ass drinks and didn't end up standing in front of a urinal thinking of how ed ritchie invented the auto flush and how thankful you are that you are not a urinal... ya I was a bit tired.

I'm really tired today which is weird because I slept well. Well the rule of blogging: "When in doubt, use potty humor.."

Movie: Valliant...

OK I'm loving this movie. Gina said it was good, but because it has the office manager (british, not american) it's very funny...

JR

smells....

We know that smells can trigger stuff. If I walk into a walk in fridge (esp with old stale beer on the floor... yum) I'm transported back to working at Kings Island when I was 15 and 16...

I walked into the kitchen today and for whatever smell it was I was taken back to my High School cafeteria... No idea why. Whatever I caught a wiff of, for damn sure, could not have been good... no way.

End of year photos

I thought I'd hit the highlights of the holidays with photos...

This is me the kids and David at Romio's Pizza.

David reading the menu... he needs the help of his camera to really get a clear picture of the peperoni pizza we're about to order.

Switching gears to xMas and the Crop Circle Pumpkin Pie:

Gina says that the crop circle decorations on the pie are proof that she needs a job because she is a danger to herself and others....
