Congrats to "other Jen"

JenM who sometimes comments on this blog completed NaNoWriMo (SP?) on time and thus evaded an evening of mockery with and without rental goats. Instead she wins a dinner of celebration in which we will not ask her to show us any of, or to read aloud to us her novel. We may, however, ask her to read aloud someone else's novel in the nice restaraunt which I'm quite sure she will rightly decline.

It's about as zen as a I get. I can't call it spiritual 'cause I'm not. I can't call it philisophical really because that would require me to maybe read something other than math. Math is fun but you really sound stupid and not at all funny if you walk around saying, "e to the i pi minus one is zero"...

USBlues

I needed a USB cable when we were out east. I was hooking up a printer because you know you're a computer guy you fix computers. I'm not complaining at least I don't own a truck. So I'm in best buy and I'm looking for a the cable. I have some other gifts and stuff and so it would just be nice to get a USB cable. So I find one it's gold plated and costs $33.99. OK so fine gold plating isn't really needed in this situation so where are the non gold plated ones. Oh you must be looking for the silver ones. 33.99. Ones near the printers? 33.99. Ones with the other cables? 33.99. So I ask a guy. "Are all of your USB cables 33.99?" I get back: "That's the standard price for any USB cable." What I did say was, "Um... Yeah... NO." and I walked on. What I wanted to say was, "You can jump on shady's dick." but that little thread of restraint lasted.

In summary: Circuit city? 29.99. Best Buy? 33.99 (yeah... no). Walmart? 9.99

So yes, walmart is wiping out all kinds of stores near you, but you can get a usb cable for what it's really worth...

The long road

I'm off. It's a nutty whirlwind tour of the east coast. We're actually travelling more than standing still. This isn't a complaint, mind you, but rather a statement of velocity...

I don't do the whole excuse me I'm not going to post for a week thing, you know that. I'm not sorry. I'm not. I'll be back and... You'll be back. I'm confident.

Books, Books, and More Books

So I've been trying to organize my books a little bit. You see to the right that I've changed over to Good Reads. I added a new category and that's "to-finish" as opposed to "to-read" because there are some books we need a break from. Mostly my reading is non-fiction and that can get trying when the book is huge. The mathematica book I'm reading right now I skipped a huge section on graphics because I'm just not there yet. Really the book as a whole is to be a reference, but still I'm going through it section by section. I also added an "abandoned" shelf for stuff I'm not going to go back and finish. I'm not sorry either. Nope.

My refresher on matrix math has hit a ... well I don't want to say wall, but I can't call it a refresher anymore. The book has moved past what I've done in school and I'm learning new stuff. The key is always the problems. Between using Mathematica and my calculator I should be OK...

Shout outs to Megan and William for selling me (well ok it was really Megan, but William carried it and picked it out and I think got the extended warranty on it) a huge fuck off tv. OK so you might have a bigger one. (Yeah out of context quotes are great, aren't they?) Mine just got a whole lot bigger and a whole lot flatter. Do they have a pill for that?

It's an all 80's sound track iPod day. What's your top 3 compilation CD's that reflects back on a specific time? I'm not talking sound tracks that were popular in the day. If you think about it the retrospective ones are easier because stuff that we look back on and go, "Seriously? I liked that? Me? Are you sure?" Of course secretly that's exactly the shit we're buying on iTunes late at night when nobody can see us.

Rookie Mistake

OK so I made a small error today and I've been paying for it all day. I went and took the kids to get Max's and my hair cut. We went early. We listened to Harry Potter VII in the car. All good. Got there early. Had cash. Buzz, clip, buzz, and more buzz and we have nice neat hair. Pay Al after much sports discussion.

Go home get a shower. All fine so far. Put on the same "clean" shirt that I wore to get my haircut. I've itched all day long. Even through the yummy fajita lunch (I like to work in what I have for lunch, ya know people find that shit interesting.) the movie and then 2 (not 1 no no) episodes of Kid Nation... All the while itching.

Am I stupid? yes. Have I changed yet? No. I'm about to though. I mean I thought of this blog by the fact that my back is totally itching right now. It's itching so much that it's catchy. Your back is starting to itch right now, isn't it? Go on try not to scratch.
